replace your passport, this kit will guide you through
the process. By using this kit you will be able to have:
• Up to date information about the passport

forms

• How to submit your application
• How to pay the fees
• Information on how to expedite the process.
• What to do if you lost your passport or had
it stolen.
The kit also contains a sample application reviewed
by a licensed immigration professional so that you can
see what a completed application looks like. This kit
contains instructions only for US Citizens living in
Canada.
The US passport is the sole document
that allows US citizens to enter other countries. Americans
can enter some countries (mostly in western Europe,
Australia, Japan, Canada, and others) without a visa
while other countries (China or Brazil, for example)
will require that you obtain a visa prior to entering
their country as a visitor. In 2008, a passport will
be required for any American citizen who wishes to enter
Canada by any means. As of late 2007, it is still possible
to enter the Canada with a State birth certificate or
a citizenship
card or green
card, and a photo ID if you are entering
Canada by car. However, if you use a commercial carrier
or are traveling to Canada by plane, you will need
your passport.

FAQs
1. For how long
is a US passport valid?
US Passports are valid for 10 years. Please note that
in order to get a visa on your passport, you must have
a remaining validity of at least 6 months.
2. If I have lost my passport
or had it stolen, will I encounter problems when I apply?
If you have a history of losing passports, this could
pose a problem.
3. I tend to travel frequently
and my passport runs out of pages quickly. What can
I do?
If you are a frequent traveler, then you should request
a 48-page passport instead of the regular 24-page passport.
4. I just changed my name; do
I have to change the name on my passport?
You are not obligated to change the name on your passport
if you changed your name. However, it is recommended
that your passport be in the same name as your IDs or
travel documents. Having your passport in one name and
a document in another could lead to confusion and some
problems.
5. What do I do if I lost my
passport while I’m overseas?
The first thing you should do is contact local police
and notify them of your lost passport. Then, you should
contact the nearest US Embassy or Consulate and arrange
to have an emergency passport given to you. This passport
is valid for one year. Once you return to Canada, you
should replace your emergency
passport with
a regular one.
