CANADIAN SKILLED WORKER KIT
Are you considering immigrating to Canada? Do you have a university degree? Have you been employed for over a year? This kit will instruct you on whether or not you qualify to apply under the Canadian skilled worker category and, if you do, how to do so. In the kit you will find:
• important information on the Canadian skilled worker class
• a short pre-assessment test to see if you qualify
• a list of all of the forms you will have to fill out along with helpful instructions
• a list of required supporting documentation
• details of how to pay your fees
• information on where to obtain a police clearance and medical exam
• where to submit your application
The kit also includes a sample application reviewed by a licensed Canadian immigration professional so that you can see what a complete application should look like.
In 2006, nearly 2 in 5 new Canadian immigrants were admitted under the Canadian skilled worker class. There are two skilled worker programs: the federal skilled worker and the Quebec skilled worker. The main difference is that in the Quebec skilled worker program, the province of Quebec must first approve you before you apply for the immigrant visa whereas in the federal skilled worker program the Government of Canada must approve you prior to applying for the immigrant visa. While other differences exist, the structure of each program is the same. Both programs will assess you based on a points grid. You will be awarded points for education, work experience, knowledge of Canada’s official languages, whether or not you have a job confirmed in Canada, age, and adaptability.

FAQs
1. How long will it take to have my skilled worker application processed?
This depends on where you file your application. Some visa offices may take more time than others. The timeline can range from four months to over 71 months.
2. What is the simplified application? Do I qualify?
The simplified application puts you in a queue. You have to give basic information and the visa office will notify you a few months prior to them being ready to assess your application. In that time you must gather all the documents you need to present to the visa office. Only certain visa offices use the simplified application program
3. Do I have to have a job in Canada to qualify as a skilled worker?
No. You are not required to have a job in Canada, however if you have found a job it will help your case.
4. Will I have to write a test to prove my English or French skills?
In most cases, you will have to pass an exam to prove your language skills. However, there are cases where a written statement could be enough.
5. Can I bring my family with me?
Yes you can. Your family is allowed to come with you as dependants.
