Newfoundland and Labrador Vital Statistics keeps a
record of all births that occur in Newfoundland and Labrador and can only issue
certificates for births that occurred in that province. Birth certificates are
issued using the information from the original Registration of Birth, completed
at the time of birth.
A birth certificate is a primary identification document, which means it can be
used to obtain other identification. Birth certificates should therefore be kept
in a secure location, not in a wallet or purse.
This kit is designed to give you key information that will help you in your
birth certificate application process.
