1. For how long is a Canadian passport valid?
Canadian passports are valid for 5 years. Please note that in order to get a visa on your passport, you must have a remaining validity of at least 6 months.

2. If I have lost my Canadian passport or had it stolen, will I encounter problems when I apply?
You will only experience some difficulties if you have lost your passport or had it stolen at least twice in a five-year period. In this case you may be given a passport that is valid for less than five years.

3. I tend to travel frequently and my passport runs out of pages quicklyt. What can I do?
If you are a frequent traveler, then you should request a 48-page passport instead of the regular 24-page passport. The extra cost for a 48-page passport is only $5. Remember, once there is no room to place any stamp in your passport, it is no longer valid and you must replace it.

4. I just changed my name; do I have to change the name on my Canadian passport?
You are not obligated to change the name on your passport if you changed your name. However, it is recommended that your passport be in the same name as your IDs or travel documents. Having your passport in one name and a document in another could lead to confusion and some problems.

5. What do I do if I lost my passport while I’m overseas?
The first thing you should do is contact local police and notify them of your lost passport. Then, you should contact the nearest Canadian Embassy or Consulate and arrange to have an emergency Canadian passport given to you. Once you return to Canada, you should replace your emergency passport with a regular one.
