Alberta Vital Statistics keeps a record
of all births that occur in Alberta and can only issue
certificates for births that occurred in Alberta. Birth
certificates are issued using the information from the
original Registration of Birth, completed at the time
of birth.
People born in Alberta must apply for their birth certificate
through a registry agent. Those who already have a birth
certificate are encouraged to get the new one and destroy
their old birth certificate to protect against identity
theft.
A new Alberta birth certificate has been introduced
and will be available to order starting February 1,
2008 from registry offices throughout the province.
This birth certificate has many new security features
designed to prevent identity theft.
This kit is designed to give you key information that
will help you in your birth certificate application
process.
